Glass pendants

More pictures of the pendants which could be necklaces or decorations.

Sandblasted Heart

The heart painted with acrylic ink before sandblasting.
The glue gun attempt at writing statistic. A bit untidy but still legible when close up.
Sandblasting practice but using a piece of paper clay as that is all that was available.

After sandblasting and peeling the glue off.

For this heart i painted it and wrote the statistic 'only 28% donate' with a glue gun and then sandblasted it to give the appearance of eroding.

Broken Heart

The heart before breaking..... and the broken heart

The inside texture looks like it could almost be real.

To aviod breaking things in the kiln i still put a hole in the heart so there was no trapped air and broke it afterwards. It was quite scary but i think the break was quite successful! The inside looked really good as well where the newspaper had been it actually looked like it could be the inside of a real heart.

Precious and Wasted Hearts

Collection of the clay hearts waiting to be fired.
Using photolythography to transfer text about how to register as a donor on to the clay hearts.

Mixture of porcelin and grit clay to hopefully create cracks.

Using 'slip' or liquid clay to create the rust effect.
The squashed heart.

I've decided to continue with the campaign for organ donation and am responding to the statistic only 28% people are on the organ donation register by making 3 'precious' hearts and 7 'wasted' hearts. Here are a few so far;

Jabberwocky Brief

The scene where the Hero spots the Jabberwocky. To make the Jabberwocky i focused on the only descriptions that are in the poem; the firey eyes, the big teeth and claws, because all the images i could find resembled some kind of dragon and i wanted to make mine different!

The Beamish Boy Hero made from felt, small enough to fit on a thimble.
The Jabberwocky with detatchable velcro head

We have been set a brief for the animation company Little Loud to produce 2 character designs and a scene from Lewis carol's Jabberwocky. I decided to make my Jabberwocky and hero from felt and fluff. The background was made using watercolour and the trees' outline have been sewn. Upon reflection my handmade characters wouldn't be very easy to animate. Still pleased with how they turned out though!

Finished necklaces

Two of the finished necklaces! I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Glass Pendants

It's very fiddely sifting the powdered glass onto the window glass and removing the template without knocking it!
The heart and gifts

Unfortunately my pendants from yesterday got knocked and as they are only powdered glass i just had to start again! I decided to scrap the sun and lifebelt as i felt the message wasn't strong enough for campaigning organ donation and replaced it with the image of a gift.
